Tim Smith, the frontman and co-founder of Cardiacs, has died at the age of 59. The Cardiacs were established in 1977, Tim Smith and his brother Jim were the only constant members of the band up to 2008 when the band went on hiatus after Tim Smith was hospitalised following a heart attack, one that led to him suffering from a rare neurological disorder that severely impacted on his speech and movement. The Cardiacs left behind a long & diverse musical legacy, something that has seen them noted as an influence on everyone from Blur to Napalm Death and everything in-between. I was fortunate enough to have seen the Cardiacs and met Tim and the band on several occasions, always unique, always original and always welcoming. You can stream ‘Anything I Can’t Eat‘ from the “Heaven Born And Ever Bright” album below, the track I asked Tim to play on their next tour the last time I saw them, a tour that sadly never happened.
