Intervene Return With New Single “Wasted”

Though it’s been nine months since Sheffield five-piece Intervene released their last single, The Conquering, their new single, Wasted, picks up exactly where its predecessor left off. Recorded in the same studio and mastered again by Pete Brazier, there’s a sense of cohesion between the two tracks certainly, but where The Conquering was an aggressively anarchic offering, Wasted provides a sense of melody behind its nihilistic exterior. This is thanks to the inclusion of some semi-impromptu brass courtesy of Backstage BrassSam Fisher who the band had only met the day before the track was recorded when he was delivering timber to Steve Regan‘s (keyboard) house.

“We got talking to him about music and ended up getting him to play trumpets on the single the next day. As a group we’ve got into a terrible habit of never releasing anything we do. We write, record, listen, and then we’re on to the next new thing. We think that’s pretty much the way you should work as an artist, but then we also wonder why no-one wants us to play any festivals. I guess we need to concentrate on sharing a bit more, there’s so much that no-one outside of the band has heard. ‘Wasted’ is the beginning of a new time for us, and we’re ready.”

This sense of grim determination is something that has been present in the band from their outset. Now however, it’s visible to more than just themselves; a palpable sense of urgency that works not just as Intervene‘s backbone, but also as the driving force behind the band as well.
