Manchester Punk Festival Releases 37th Compilation
Manchester Punk Festival have released the 37th volume of their compilation series ahead of this year’s festival. Manchester Punk Festival Vol. 37 is…
We have hit the halfway point in The Punk Site‘s 2022 Top 20, occupying the number 10 spot of our annual countdown of the best releases from the year that is almost over are NOFX with their final full length, Double Album, that was released earlier this month via Fat Wreck Chords. Double Album saw the band reunited with Bill Stevenson (Descendents / All / Black Flag) and Jason Livermore (The Blasting Room) for production, engineering and mixing duties; it’s not hyperbolic to say NOFX are making their best music now. But that’s not to imply everything else they’ve done was mediocre, either. Double Album reminds both ardent fans and casual listeners that NOFX weren’t born to follow trends.
“Double Album is familiar, but if you love NOFX then you’ll love Double Album, plus it won’t taint your memories of the band, as some aging punk bands later releases have over the years. NOFX seem intent on not being one of those bands that has long since outstayed their welcome, and if they stay true to their intentions then this is a rare thing, with many bands from the previous generations of punk still touring regularly well into their 60’s and 70’s. Maybe they will return in the future, maybe they’ll change their minds, maybe they never intended to quit, who knows? But for now this is a fitting swan song, well the entire Single, Double and Half trilogy will be when it’s all finally released. But for now we have a fine final full length and a final tour that promises to span the globe over the next year or so, and doubtless there will recordings from that released in one format or another. The end is in sight for NOFX, but it might just be further away than you thought it was.” (Phinky November 2022)
