The Underbites aim their razor-sharp wit across the pond with Topsy Turvy Trish, another instant classic that pokes lighthearted fun at aging punks while also paying homage to the band’s UK heroes such as Buzzcocks and Sex Pistols. One of three characters who inhabit the band’s upcoming EP, Four Songs About Girls, Topsy Turvy Trish is based on a real person, but exaggerated so as to reminisce about the London punk scene while delivering a good-natured portrait of what happens to punks when they grow up… or do they?

“I’ve never met the real-life Trish. My wife has a friend named Trish who lives in England and goes by that nickname. I took poetic license and created this persona around her, imagining how someone who was in the thick of that scene as a young woman might change over time, while still retaining her eccentric streak. We’re kind of poking fun but also laughing at ourselves because, after all, we’re aging punks too.” (guitarist & frontman Jon Fox)

As usual, The Underbites‘ combination of directness and precision makes for an irresistibly catchy anthem that showcases the band’s fluency with a seemingly endless array of punk styles. Able to channel the spirit of groups like Ramones, Social Distortion, Rancid, Redd Kross and even classic rock outfits like The Sweet, The Underbites approach the punk ethos as if it were a vast library to draw from, albeit one that welcomes a noisy, irreverent bunch like themselves.
