Yur Mum will explore the tale of Anhangá (Ah-nyan-gah) on their upcoming single that is due out on April 26th. Anhangá is a native Brazilian myth about a shapeshifting god who protects fauna and flora. Present in Brazilian indigenous folklore, Anhangá is a protective spirit of nature who can take the form of various jungle animals. It is believed that the spirit punishes those who hunt and kill pups and pregnant females. Part of the duo’s upcoming new album, Duality, Anhangá is a unique post-punk track infused with Brazilian musicality and is Yur Mum’s first release with lyrics in English and their native Portuguese. It’s intro is sung as a form of traditional chanting, then it takes an unexpected turn with a segway that creates seismic waves. Anhangá’s tale is told in English, as the music becomes more atmospheric and transcending, making room for the vocals. Although don’t get too comfortable, the trance rapidly turns into a nightmare, as Anhangá unleashes its wrath upon us with one of the heaviest hooks ever played by Yur Mum.
