Getting Dumber Present “Dried Flowers” From Upcoming “Just A Second” EP
Perth trio, Getting Dumber struck the local scene in late 2022 putting their own spin on melody and power-chord driven punk…
R.O.I - Venn Records
Well the third album has arrived, Aerial Salad are now eight years old and the world is still a shit storm of war, hatred and self serving asshole governments, so where are the lads at in the grand scheme of things now then? Well for the most part, this album continues on the theme of what life has dealt them and how they convey just what it means to be someone trying to live and survive.
Brexit has crash landed the “Empire” building Tory wankers, the pandemic gave us all time to wake up and smell the roses when it comes to just how corrupt it can all get, this is covered perfectly in track ‘Big Business’ which speaks of how everything is now tied to its coattails, money is the be all and end all of 100% everything, and then there’s possibly the worst thing to come out of the last decade, the need for self gratification, ‘Same 24 Hours (as Beyonce)’ looks at how influencers fake their way to being your best friend, how people are so easily led down the wrong path.
Changing the tack a little, let’s actually forget just how brilliantly this album picks apart the social and political heartache we live with day to day, and talk about the music for a line or three. Funk! Is just as prevalent in the songs as Punk, the streets are never too far away, and Indie is like a badge of honour worn with pride. Songs like ‘All Yer Dreamin’ with its Fall esque wanderings, are the norm on this album, the whole feel is of growing up and being comfortable with stretching the boundaries of what being a DIY band can be or do, remember The Clash bringing out London Calling, not quite the same thing, but you get what I mean.
This is a band that being three albums in, have on every occasion, grown some new branches, this album is just as hard hitting, but with a much more considered feel.
R.O.I. is due out via Venn Records April 12th
