Damn Teeth

Real Men - Buzzhowl Records

Glasgow’s post punk synth heads Damn Teeth have announced that they will be releasing their new album, Real Men, via Buzzhowl Records on the 12th July, their new full length follows up on their 2015 self titled debut album that was released via Good Grief Records. Damn Teeth are made up of current and ex-members of Thin Privilege, Black International and Joanna Gruesome and their latest full length is one that takes a deep dive into addressing male sexuality and the masculinist mindset.

Their debut album was a synth led experimental and chaotic soundclash that embraced noise rock and post punk, with Real Men they have built on that foundation. An ominous static crackle precedes the opening track ‘You’ll Only Make It Worse‘, a dark and claustrophobic synth led track that embraces both their new wave roots, the rage of early Nine Inch Nails and the pop sensibilities of LCD Soundsystem. Each of the album’s tracks possess their own character, from the atmospheric ‘Cattle‘ through the minimalistic ‘The People Vs. Real Men‘ and the surreal pop of ‘Dominant Male‘ It’s fair to say that I doubt you’ll hear anything else quite like ‘Real Men‘ this year.

The whole album evokes the paranoia of the very early Human League and combines it was with the aforementioned influences, along with with their own manic and eccentric tendencies to create an album that at times feels like it’s dropped through a time warp from the dawn of the eighties, if that was the end of the story then this could be dismissed as a throwback, but Real Men is an album that manages to span the decades. Damn Teeth have released a unique full length of unpredictable chaotic synth pop that is unique amongst the album’s I’ve heard this year, you will either love this or hate it and I leave that judgement to you.

Real Men can be pre-ordered on vinyl, digital and cassette formats via Buzzhowl Records here
