Taco Mouth

A Deafening Silence - Self Released

A first run through this first full length piece from Taco Mouth reveals that this is a band not afraid to put their musical money where their mouth is and that they have faith and confidence in their ability to make the music they want on their own terms.

A Deafening Silence is not an album you could expect from a new band: you have to have been places and seen stuff to reach this level of confidence and accomplishment. Taco Mouth are there. They’re experienced and slick, with no shortage of confidence and swagger.  It is this polish,  aided by German rock producing legend Michael Wagener‘s sunny, radio-friendly production, that elevates this record out of scuzzy retroland and makes it an argument for Taco Mouth belonging on big stages.  From the brash opener You Say through to the fiery closer Waiting For The Sun, you can feel that this is a band born for big backdrops. That isn’t to say that there aren’t moments of surprising intimacy on this record. You Can’t Stop Me is a beautifully lovelorn snapshot of a failing relationship with a surprising kickass and upbeat coda; a hint perhaps at better days to come.

This is also a band with a message for conservative America. There is current of social angst and commentary that makes this absolutely an album of its times, despite the band’s stated kinship with musical currents from the past. There are sonic references to influences there too if you want them, but Taco Mouth are big and bad enough to stand up on their own. A Deafening Silence will be launched at The 5 Spot in Nashville on the 26th October and a further date at Growlers in Memphis on November 10th.
