Valley Of Thorns - Cargo Records

The Kut signed a world wide record deal with Cargo Records for their debut album, Valley Of Thorns, that is scheduled for release on Friday 4th May, and Friday 18th May in the US, ahead of the release The Kut have joined forces with Pledge Music and their campaign has already surpassed it’s goal, but there are still signed limited edition CD Digipacks, signed vinyl and plenty of exclusives and bundles that are still available for pre-order. The Kut will also appearing at Strummercamp, Nice N Sleazy and Rebellion Festivals across the summer as well as an extensive schedule of headline tour dates in support of their debut album.

Mind Games makes for is a brooding opener to The Kuts debut album, the sinister lead guitar is overlaid with a hypnotic drum beat and Princess Maha‘s yearning vocal delivery, from here the album leaps into Hollywood Rock ‘N Roll that captures the spirit of L7 in their prime. Valley Of Thorns is an album that continues to channel the alternative scene of the last three decades, whether it’s the dark post grunge of No Trace and Rush Hour, the straight up punk rock attitude of I Want You Maniac, Bad Man and I Am Vain, the dark heavy style of Alekhine’s Gun and Mario or the grunge influenced X-Ray Eyes. The Kut are a band that effortlessly cross the boundaries of punk, alternative, grunge and indie, but it’s all done with their own unique style that embodies menace and melody in equal measure.

Valley Of Thorns is an impressive debut album where there is no filler, whilst the album varies it’s approach, with each track carrying it’s own character, every track is unmistakably delivered in The Kut‘s own style. You can draw comparisons to the likes of Lunachicks, L7 and Hole and to contemporaries such as Hands Off Gretel, but what Valley Of Thorns proves is that The Kut have definitely carved their own niche into the UK’s alternative scene. Valley Of Thorns underpins exactly why they’ve already developed a loyal live following, and the release of their stunning debut album can only add to The Kut‘s growing reputation.
