EP Review: The Beautiful Mistake – Your’e Not Broken. I Am.

A band that for myself have not fallen on the radar previously to this release, The Beautiful Mistake were originally formed way back in 2000, they have previously released 2 other full lengths in the form of a 2002 debut album, ‘Light A Match, For I Deserve To Burn’, and 2004’s ‘This Is Who You Are’ 

So this is maybe what you could call a very long overdue venture back into the recording world.

Being that this EP release comes now after a hiatus of 15 years plus, you have to form the opinion that possibly another album could be in the offing in the near future. 

Josh Hagquist (guitar/vocals) seems to be the main instigator and constant when it comes to the bands line up.

The first thing that hits you about the world of The Beautiful Mistake, is the full on earth shattering vocal and a sound that feels like a full on My Chemical Romance at their very darkest, songs that on the surface are powerful, full of huge riffs and anthemic choruses, that give a sing a long feel too.  

Underneath this though, you find a world of angst and vulnerability that screams to the world with its message of hardship that engulfs the youth of today, the pressures of cultural acceptance, social interaction, and a surge in suicide rates.  Coming back after so long, with their brand of emo punk, is maybe a shot in the arm and a very welcome musical support for the needy.

Altogether an EP that has its dark emotional moments, but doesn’t sit around mulling over its self worth, instead it screams against all that is wrong and encourages you to stand up and fight.
