Shoot The Moon: The Essential Collection - Antagonist Records
Once again let me jump the fence and tell you what I know and think of Face To Face – but don’t worry, I’ll be quick. Because quite frankly, I know nothing. I got into the punk scene a little too late. By the time I got into the style of music, it was too late. Face To Face just released their final album and soon after announced their breakup and I really didn’t care. Since then I’ve seen them on a fair few compilations, rare songs or live songs, and they always stood out – just never enough for me to go and find extra information on the band. But the idea of a “best of” the band enticed me and it sounded like a perfect opportunity to really get to know the famed band that never quite made it. I finally got around to listening to Shoot The Moon: The Essential Collection and let me tell you, I should have cared when they broke up.
Songs like Walk The Walk (Live), Disconnected, You’ve Done Nothing, Pastel, A-Ok, Blind, and It’s Not Over are all highlights fro SHoot The Moon, showing that Face To Face deserved much more respect than they got. Quick, sharp, steady skate-punk at every turn full of bouncy riffs, repetitive drumming and strong vocals that get your head bopping and fist pumping instantly. It’s for anyone who loves the music that came out of southern California in the middle and early 90’s/
Is Shoot The Moon a fair representation of the band? I really can’t tell you, but haven read a few other reviews about the album I would guess that yes, it is. And really, I don’t know how it couldn’t be. I mean, it has selections of songs spanning their entire career, including a few live songs in there to really mix it up.
Would Face To Face fans be please with this “greatest hits” CD, I have no idea, but I do know it turned me into a fan. Will I run out and buy their entire back catalogue? I doubt it. But for now, Shoot The Moon will easily keep me very, very entertained. If you want a better review then this, I strongly suggest reading the one at MontagPress.co.uk because unlike me, they knew something about the band and will actually be able to convince you to buy the CD as soon as you can.
