David Delinquent Releases “Scared To Spend” EP
Dundee’s David Delinquent (The Delinquents / David Delinquent & The IOU’s / Football, Beer & Punk Rock Podcast) has self released a brand new EP, Scared…
Trillions Bar, Newcastle upon Tyne - Thursday May 2nd
To be given the chance to see the Gypsy Pistoleros live is something that has been at the top of my list for some time now, so when the call came to go to Newcastle and frequent the iconic Trillions Bar for an evening of eclectic and equally iconic music, its was of course a total no brainer. The first Thursday in May came around far too slowly, but here it was, and after checking into our hotel, which would be our place of rest and recuperation from what was undoubtably going to be an exhausting night (such excitement is never relaxing), we headed off into the wilds of the Toon. After some amazing pie and mash at one of the oldest pubs in the city (Redhouse), a wander through the mall (Eldon Square) with our own personal mall master (Arra Harrison) by our side, a coffee in a non chain cafe (Meli Cafe) that was absolutely perfect and very highly recommended, a beer or two in some local establishments, it was now time to enter the dark but strangely inviting Trillions.
We were welcomed by Cirwen, the infectious singer from the first support band Adam And The Hellcats, so with a sticker in hand and beer bought, and it was time for said band to take to the stage. This is why you should always be there for all support bands, you may have a tiny regret some of the time, but then you will always kick yourself for missing a band as good as Adam And The Hellcats. From deepest darkest Bristol, this is a band the entertains with their rock influenced quirkiness, a singer in Cirwen who is the very playful hellcat with a voice that just soars, a lead singer and creator Adam, who writes songs that sing to the heart and soul, and the rest of the Hellcats just added up to tightness and energy that left us bouncing with joy at being a part of the whole experience.
With only just time for another beer, it’s time to make our way back to our spot for the next band up on this free to enter night, and the start of the Gypsies tour, up comes Blitz, a three piece from Nottingham. Yeah, we’re going fully national at this gig, Rock ‘n Roll is what this band do, and do it well is what they also do, a kind of music that no matter what your likes are, this is entertainment. Looking around the bar, you would be hard pushed to see anyone who wasn’t fully in the moment and enjoying what was going on with this high octane rock band. Live music never disappoints, and this was a band that put their all into giving us a warm up for the band still to come.
Coming down was not an option tonight, from one band to the next, it was a matter of moving on up to the next level, and now this was the moment we were all waiting for (after getting another beer of course). Gypsy Pistoleros hit the stage and wow you could feel the place just heat up, ‘Revolution’ rings out and that’s it, they have us in the palm of their enormously talented hands. This is a band that have toured with and graced the same stage as the best of them, Ramones, ZZ Top, Papa Roach and Motley Crue just to name a few, and tonight we get to share this iconic bar with them too. It’s like a scene from Dusk Till Dawn and we are the revellers who have wandered in knowingly wanting to take part. Music that has as much to do with Punk, as Rock ‘n Roll and Glam, and some beautiful hints of Flamenco thrown in for our delectation, is what this animated and theatrical band give us, a show rammed full of songs that just explode like fireworks around the room.
From the title track of their chart breaking album ‘Duendo A Go Go Loco!’ to songs like ‘I’ll Remember You’, ‘Forever Wild’, ‘Living La Vida Loca’ (yes you heard that right), and of course their brilliantly Glam-sleaze cover of Dexy’s ‘Come On Eileen’, this was a show that grabbed you by the neck and wouldn’t let you go until they were done. This was a band that was at the top of their game who were giving us all a night to remember for a very long time. If you ever get the chance to go see the Gypsies, just promise me one thing, don’t forget to invite me along too. The Gypsy Pistoleros will be on tour throughout the Spring & Summer, go catch them on the Revolution UK Tour ’24!
