Self Titled - To Define Records
Another pop-punk band made of youthful, energetic teenagers singing about adolescence and girls has arrived on the scene. This time they go by the name of Mayfield and they have just released their first album on a new record label called To Define records. A 7 song EP made up of pop-punk songs from the heart of Illinois.
Catchy vocals, intriguing guitar riffs, melodic bass riffs, smooth drum rolls, the perfect pop-punk curriculum, hell, they even throw in some “Na, na, na, na”s too! This does seem to get somewhat repetitive, all the bands are doing it. So Mayfield try to be a bit different and changes the speed every once in a while. One song, like “Picture Perfect” or “Homecoming” could be a faster paced pop-punk track followed closely by a much slower track like “If Only” or “Falling Apart”. Doing this does keep your interest a bit, but they are still just the same as most pop-punk acts around the globe. That is why is extremely nice to come upon the second and third tracks, “Homecoming” and “Picture Perfect”. Both of them start off with a great melody, one which grabs your attention right away and they then bring the beat blasting back up at you later on in the songs.
Overall, this EP is one which the band should be proud of. Although it is somewhat generic, there are still some moments which stand out.
