Manchester Punk Festival Releases 38th Compilation
Manchester Punk Festival have released the 38th volume of their compilation series ahead of this year’s festival. Manchester Punk Festival Vol. 38 is…
No Judgement - Death To False Hope Records
If you wake up every morning hoping that this could be the day that pop punk returns to sweep Miley Cyrus and her tongue wagging pop contemporaries aside to take pride of place at the top of the music industry, then you’re probably going to like this debut EP from Boston pop punkers Trophy Lungs. Self produced and featuring three songs, No Judgement doesn’t bring anything particularly new to the party. In fact it seems more like they are still at the door of the party trying very hard to blag their way in (“Hey, we have beer”)*.
Dad’s Away On Business sounds like a discarded Blink 182 b-side from the Dude Ranch sessions, whilst Left of Center sounds like classic New Found Glory but not done nearly as well. Bone Dry is the most interesting of the tracks, but even it suffers from the ‘pop-punk by numbers’ effect.
Overall the whole package is just so expected, but maybe that’s the point, these guys are a pop punk band, and that’s exactly what they do – just not particularly well based on the strength of this EP.
*I don’t actually know if the band bring beer to parties. They probably do as they seem like nice guys, but it has yet to be confirmed.
