The label Fichines Ruido Zafarla has just released Este Sinte Mata Fascistas (This Synth Kills Fascists) as a free download and on CD one month after the inauguration of Argentina’s new far-right president. The album is a compilation of Argentine bands and solo projects that merge punk attitude with the sound of synthesizers and electronic drums. The compilation brings together eighteen artists who navigate through genres such as synthpunk, new wave, post punk and techno, always maintaining a transgressive and experimental attitude. Those who are aware of the Argentine scene of sharp synthesizers and furious lyrics surely know Los Peligros, Desborde, Unión Soviética, Patokai, WWW, PaisTerror and Misión Indecente, without leaving aside new projects such as OYO, Valentina & Los Bindis, La Niña Del Kaos and Fancy Trashers. Far from looking for a virtuoso performance on the keyboards, they keep the essence of the most primitive punk rock: to make noise and challenge authority.
Argentina had in the eighties an explosion of dark groups close to post-punk, but there were never punk bands that gave prominence to keyboards and synthesizers. There were some distant connections, like the garage movement in love with the sound of Farfisa and Hammond organs, the anarcho-chic mods of Demonios de Tasmania, or the dark techno of Travesti, but none had the intense and aggressive sound of synth punk. It was not until early 2010 that Patokai, The Charlie’s Jacket and Di Giovannis would appear, followed later by Los Peligros and Minibruto. Currently there is a whole scene of punk bands that record with cell phones and computers, such as SPAM, Diablos INC, Rudix, PeloMuerto, Repulsion Switch, Post-Adolescente, The Netrunners, Rocko Rainoldi & Su Teléfono Maldito. From the cries of protest of Peste Negra Orquesta and Desborde, to the irony of Unión Soviética and Los Peligros, or the chaos of OYO and WWW, this compilation offers a wide panorama of what rock can achieve when it resists and does not stagnate.
