After joining the cast of American Idiot for eight shows this past October, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is set to join the cast of the musical for an extended run next year at New York’s St. James Theatre. The singer / guitarist will play the drug dealer St. Jimmy for 50 performances starting on January 1st, taking over for Tony Vincent who will end his run on December 30th.
Armstrong will appear with the broadway performance in three stints, from January 1st through the 9th, from the 18th through the 30th and from February 10th through the 27th.
American Idiot: The Broadway Musical is directed by Michael Mayer with musical arrangements by Tom Kitt. It was co-written by Armstrong and Mayer and is based on the band’s 2004 full length Green Day concept album American Idiot.
