Billy Talent and Sum 41 will be performing a benefit concert at the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver on Tuesday, July 19, titled “Friends Helping Friends”. All proceeds from the show will go toward benefiting Xavier, the young son of a friend and co-worker of both bands who was diagnosed in August 2010 with neuroblastoma stage IV, the 3rd most common pediatric cancer after leukemia and brain tumors.
Since being diagnosed, Xavier has undergone extensive testing, multiple rounds of chemotherapy and now MIBG treatment, where radiation levels are so high that Xavier is confined to a lead fortified room and his hospital bed for 3 days, without physical contact with his family. To receive that therapy, Xavier and his family must travel to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Both bands, who have worked with Xavier’s father, Dan, in the past, are raising funds to help counter-act the ever rising costs of these treatments.
