Arguably one of the most beloved DIY punk/metal groups to hail from Alberta, Canada (SNFU being their main competition for that title), Edmonton’s The Smalls have announced plans to play at two upcoming music festivals in the province.
The group grew to near mythical status after playing their final show in their hometown on October 20, 2001. Members went their separate ways and vowed to stay true to the name of their Goodbye Forever farewell tour. Bassist Corb Lund went on to become a top selling Canadian country music artist. Rumors of a reunion have been floating around since 2001, but long time fans finally have 2 confirmed shows.
During their decade of existence, the group (made up of vocalist Mike Caldwell, bassist Corb Lund, guitarist Dug Bevans and drummer Terry Johnson) released 4 full length albums and toured Canada extensively. The group were well known for their technical prowess and incorporating jazz, country and soul music into their heavy punk sound.
The Smalls will play at X-Fest August 30 in Calgary and August 31 in Edmonton at Sonic Boom. In the video below, Corb Lund hints that there may be more tour dates announced.
