Gab De La Vega has released No Cigar, an acoustic reinterpretation of one of Millencolin‘s most iconic songs. The single, accompanied by a music video, pays tribute to a track that defined an entire punk rock generation that has been reimagined through the personal, sincere, and straightforward style that defines the Brescia based singer-songwriter. No Cigar showcases his ability to bridge the worlds of Punk Rock and songwriting, breathing new life into a classic with authenticity and contemporary sensitivity. The release follows on from Life Burns, an album that best represents Gab De La Vega‘s current sound, especially during his full band performances with The Open Cages.
“I started playing this acoustic version every once in a while during my solo sets a couple of years ago. Eventually, during my US tour last year, I realized that my reinterpretation of this immortal classic somehow perfectly represented both my style and my punk rock roots. Since Millencolin are a Swedish band, I would often point out that this song comes from a European band, and being Italian myself, touring the States, it felt ironic and fun to say: ‘Yes, you guys have some great bands, and I grew up listening to a lot of American music, but this is how we do it in Europe.’ It was my way of nodding to the unique European twist in Millencolin’s punk rock sound, and, in a way, to my own take on punk rock, songwriting, and music in general. Every time I played the song, people sang along, and I thought it would be a great idea to capture that feeling in the studio.” (Gab De La Vega)
Gab De La Vega is currently celebrating the 10th anniversary of Never Look Back with an Italian acoustic tour which sees him return to his roots, voice and guitar, retracing a decade of music, experiences, and travels.
