Manchester Punk Festival Issues 40th Name Your Price Compilation
Manchester Punk Festival have released the 40th volume of their name your price compilation series via Bandcamp ahead of this year’s…
A punk rock palindrome packed with acronyms, DUIIUD is Gymshorts at their sharpest, funniest and most furious. It tells the story of a woman so fed up with the burden of birth control that she gets drunk before an IUD appointment, only to get pulled over and end up with a DUI instead. Written by lead singer Sarah Greenwell in the aftermath of Roe v. Wade’s reversal, the song blends chaotic humor with a biting undercurrent of political commentary. It’s loud, it’s playful, and it pulls no punches. The track appears on the band’s vinyl only release, That’s A Lot of Milk, that is available on ‘spilled milk’ vinyl via Bandcamp.
“I just got really obsessed with the wordplay. It started as this funny idea, but the more I sat with it, the more it reflected how ridiculous it is that reproductive responsibility still falls so heavily on women. It’s not a deeply personal song, but it does reflect some of my own fears. Like, I literally stopped drinking because I was scared of getting a DUI. So… here we are.” (Sarah Greenwell)
