Sweden’s Isolated Youth have returned after a four-year hiatus with their new single, Psykosoma, that is now available through streaming platforms. The track serves as the initial glimpse into their upcoming debut album, Miserere Mei, that was conceived in a studio nestled beside a forested graveyard and was co-produced by Faris Badwan (The Horrors) and Max Heyes. Psykosoma is steeped in the eerie ambiance of its origins, drawing from the gothic and ghostly atmosphere. With its haunting chorus and ethereal backing vocals complementing frontman Axel Mårdberg‘s velvety voice and explorations of psychosomatic themes, the song leaves a lingering impression reminiscent of its haunting birthplace. Isolated Youth will be also be playing a single release show at London’s The Victoria Dalston later today

“Thematically, ‘Psykosoma’ delves into the protagonist’s struggles and the inevitable confrontation with personal demons in perceived safe havens, yet it also embodies an esoteric and hopeful psychedelic essence. This duality traces back to the blues influences in guitar tuning and beyond. The overarching themes of the album draw loose inspiration from Nina Simone’s “Sinnerman,” reimagined with modern elements like industrial drum patterns and unconventional synthesizers.”
