Ahead of this year’s Rebellion Festival we’re asking a selection of the band’s who are appearing about what we can expect, and for their advice on surviving the four day festival. In the 16th of The Punk Site‘s Rebellion Festival previews we speak to Badja O’Connell, drummer for Hospital Food and Dead Objectives. The Rebellion Festival is one that spreads it’s wings beyond the confines of the Winter Gardens and into venues and bars of Blackpool, Hospital Food are appearing on the Pavilion Stage as well as at the Waterloo Bar and Dead Objectives will be playing two sets over the weekend in neighbouring venues.

You can read about what to expect from Hospital Food and Dead Objectives at the Rebellion Festival weekend below

Is this your first experience of the Rebellion Festival or have you played before?

It’s my first time at Rebellion this year so I’m super excited to be going!

What can we look forward to from your set?

The Hospital Food set will a little nerve wracking for me. This is Dom’s last Rebellion with the band so he will be drumming for the majority of the set. I’ll be coming on during the set to play a couple of brand new tracks!

What makes the Rebellion Festival special for you?

As its my first one I think everything will be special! It’ll be the biggest crowd I’ve ever played to so I’m terrified and super stoked at the same time!

Will you have the chance to catch anyone else whilst you’re there and is there anyone else on the bill you’d recommend people go and see?

I’m going to try my best to catch as many bands as I possibly can. It’s an incredible line up!

If you could pick one band to appear at the Rebellion Festival who would it be?

Hmmm, that’s a tough one. I couldn’t possibly choose just one band. There’s so many deserving, hard working bands around on the scene. Obviously I’d love for Hospital Food and Dead Objectives to both be on the line up next year!

Do you have a favourite memory from a previous Rebellion Festival?

Sadly not personal memories but I have heard loads of stories, I’m just hoping that I’ll get home in one piece!!!

Are you currently on tour if so where else are you playing this year?

Both bands have got loads of gigs lined up so I’m gonna be a busy girl!

What can we look forward to from you in the next twelve months?

Things are really exciting for me at the moment, I’m playing loads of gigs and working on new material for both bands. Next year marks 10 years for Hospital Food so expect an album! We’re working on loads of new songs at the moment and we’ll be in the studio in the next few months to record an EP for release before the end of 2018. It’s really nice that the lads wanted to release this EP to mark my joining of the band and introduce my drumming. Dead Objectives are releasing another single from our debut album next month. The album is currently in production and should be released sometime in Autumn.

Do you have any festival survival tips?

I’m hopeless. I manage to injure myself, lose stuff or drink myself silly at every festival I’ve ever been to. So my best survival tip might be to avoid me; I’m a walking disaster zone!

Is there anything else in Blackpool you’d recommend people experience whilst they’re in the town?

The Valhalla ride at the pleasure beach! And the obligatory fish and chips of course.

Finally when and where are you appearing?

Hospital Food are playing Rebellion Thursday evening on the Pavilion Stage at 7.55 and at the Washington straight after Dead Objectives set at 10:15 on the Saturday, Sunday evening Dead Objectives are on at the The Temple Bar at 9pm

Thanks for taking the time to speak to us, we’ll see you down the front
