Red Sun Alert Announce New Single & EP “Assume Power”

Post-hardcore four-piece Red Sun Alert are set to release the first single Assume Power, the title track from their upcoming EP of the same name. The Cork based group recorded at the studio in Munster Technological University, Cork School of Music, where the four members have just graduated from. The single is set to be released on the 28th of October, with an accompanying music video. It will then be followed with a consecutive release of two other singles. The Assume Power EP follows on from the band’s 2020 self titled EP.

Assume Power was written during the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. The lyrics are an effort to reflect on the oppressive measures that were placed against women’s rights in the singer’s home country. It can be understood as an affirmation of anger or frustration about the cause. The harsh, spoken-like vocal paired with the distorted guitar riff emanates such feelings through their sound. 

The songs came together during the initial hit of the Covid pandemic. As the members stayed present in contact with each other through the means of technology, they recorded ideas and shared their thoughts actively while patiently waiting for the chance to play together in the same room again. Once that opportunity came as the restrictions eased, they dived into the songwriting.
