Yesterday’s Not Here” is a musical project to capture the breadth of Pete Shelley‘s musical and lyrical genius, approved by Pete’s wife. While widely and best known for the Buzzcocks hits of the late 1970s, Pete also produced a significant catalogue of works as a solo artist. Contributions are invited for consideration for a proposed album of Pete Shelley covers to be issued on Secret Public Records, initially as a digital download at a nominal price. Proceeds will benefit the Pete Shelley Memorial Campaign. Submissions of recordings of his lesser-known songs are encouraged. There is no prescription on form or content: they can be from any of Pete’s musical incarnations or projects. The only criterion is that the song is credited solely to Pete. Any musical style is welcome and quality of the recording is not a paramount concern. Spoken word versions of Pete’s lyrics are also encouraged. There is currently no deadline, given that everything is shut down. If you want to know more, get in touch at secretpublic@buzzcocks.com
