SYL Team Up With Honningbarna On “Orphan Crushing Machine” Single

The Danish Hardcore band SYL has in the course of 2026 released the singles Grænseløs and Bedøvet (feat. Sivas), and now they’ve released their last single before their upcoming album, this time in collaboration with their Norwegian colleagues Honningbarna. On Orphan Crushing Machine SYL are joined by Honningbarna frontman Edvard Valberg for a melodic punk banger that raises questions about privilege. The lyrics describe the feeling of watching from a Scandinavian country as other so-called “developed” nations fall into disarray, as basic human needs such as healthcare and housing are commodified and kept from the lower classes of society. The songs optimistic vibe and catchy hook plays sarcastically with the notion that everything will be fine, and that those types of hardships definitely won’t reach Scandinavia anytime soon. “It’s probably fine”… 

The title Orphan Crushing Machine is a reference to an old tweet that describes a sort of heartwarming news story about someone overcoming a problem, without acknowledging the underlying societal issues that caused the problem to begin with.  “Every heartwarming human interest story in America is like “he raised $20,000 to keep 200 orphans from being crushed in the orphan-crushing machine” and then never asks why an orphan-crushing machine exists or why you’d need to pay to prevent it from being used.”
