Take This To Heart Records have signed Hollister, CA’s Thanks! I Hate It. The self proclaimed “Mid-Westcoast-Emo” outfit have also just dropped their brand new single, Wet Hot American Bummer, a track which is just as much Taking Back Sunday as it is Modern Baseball. The band have also commenced their US tour with Small Talk which kicks off today and runs through to the 18th July.

Bummer is about Tim, a bartender at a dive bar called The Jury Room that I (Sam) used to frequent in Santa Cruz. We kinda became buddies, I think we like each other because neither of us talk much. Anyways I started telling him about this new band I joined and he gave me shit for it being an “emo” band. I asked him if he could set up a show for us there and he said no because we would all slit our wrists and cry in the bar. I thought it was pretty funny, so when Will came up with this new demo I wanted to write a silly song about it. There’s also some references to local Santa Cruz bands; when I say “I dare you to count us out”, it’s a reference to The Randy Savages, an awesome rock band I did some backing vocals for. And when I say “picking at my bones” it’s a reference to another sick rock band out here called Vultures at Arms Reach. I showed Tim the song and he laughed. I think it’s just punk enough for him.”
