Born in an Ohio basement, US thrash upstarts Thorns burst into the world armed with an artillery of self-recorded songs that plug directly into the roots of the original mid-80s explosion, self-releasing two albums and multiple singles and rallying a worldwide following in under a year. High energy and volatile and as much influenced by punk and hardcore as they are metal, their forthcoming EP, Ready To Strike, is set for release on August 26th via These Go To Eleven Records, slams out of the speakers with a youthful exuberance that is both exhilarating and addictive. Following their Bad Business single back in May, Thorns are back with new anti-war track, Muzzle, with a video that doesn’t hold back in showing the sheer horror of war. Currently on their first tour of the UK, and for most of the band, their first time outside of America, Thorns have been blasting basements and venues up and down the country this month, roaring down motorways in a van they can hardly drive and have already left their mark on the 2000 Trees Festival this weekend.

“I think ‘Muzzle’ is the song we are most proud of writing so far as a band. As soon as we wrote the riff, we knew we had something great on our hands. Inspired by all of our favourite old school metal bands, we wanted to write a song about the most relevant war of our generation, the Iraq war, and the consequences that it’s had on those unfortunate enough to be on the front lines. The song is written from the point of view of a soldier who has been stripped of all sense of self and conditioned to kill or be killed for what he believes is right, something that he relives over and over for the rest of his life. Upon releasing, it instantly took us to the next level and got people excited for our future and to hear what else we could do. With the ‘Ready To Strike’ EP version, we hope to have the same effect on UK listeners and show them what we have to offer!” (bassist Peyton Smith)
