Turnpike Gates have released their new album, Not Myself Today, across all digital platforms, the album chronicles the psychologically draining experience of living in a post-pandemic American city. With the follow-up to 2021’s City In Heat EP, singer-songwriter Ryan Smith returns with his unique brand of East Coast flavored angst, fusing punk, pop, alternative and heartland rock to create a sound that’s all his own. Turnpike Gates will be promoting Not Myself Today with a string of shows along the East Coast, starting March 21 at NYC’s The Delancey.

Produced by Pete Steinkopf (The Bouncing Souls), Not Myself Today takes the listener on a careening journey through Smith’s psyche. From the frenzied self-recrimination of Shifty Eyes to the skeptical optimism of High Hopes, Smith strips himself bare lyrically while evolving the sound of Turnpike Gates by enlisting a talented group of musicians to deepen the texture of the album with piano, horns, strings and vocal harmonies. This includes Steinkopf, who plays lead guitar on the album’s title track; Jared Hart (Mercy Union / The Scandals) Jenn Fantaccione (The Bouncing Souls / The Front Bottoms) and Danny “Dubs” Windas (Beach Rats).
