Bash Brothers

Downhearted - Thousand Islands Records

Sweden’s Bash Brothers unashamedly come from distinctly metallic origins, the quartet’s current line up have previously played in outfits such as Tomorrow Will Never Come, Straight A’s and Demonium. Following several line up changes the band have now revealed their sophomore full length, Downhearted, via Thousand Islands Records. Downhearted follows in the wake of their 2016 self titled EP, that is still available as a name your price download via their Bandcamp, and their 2017 debut album, Life Lessons.

The Bash Brothers latest release features some notable cameo appearances including Orbit Culture‘s Niklas Karlsson, PMX‘s John Harcus and Vince Fournier from Our Darkest Days, which is a selection of collaborators that should already give you an idea of where the Bash Brothers sound is coming from. Just in case that didn’t give you a hint the opening track, It’s Not The End Of The World, confirms that this is frantic melodic hardcore with a metallic edge. The Bash Brothers sophomore album continues to delivers constant hooks with vocals that alternate between the clean and growled style, all of which is underpinned by a relentless soundtrack that doesn’t provide any respite until the final chords of the closing track Fade Out .

The Bash Brothers latest release is one that will obviously appeal to fans of melodic hardcore, every single track launches itself at you with the same enthusiasm, whilst this is exactly what many look for in melodic hardcore found I found that the album’s twelve tracks just started to blur into each other before I was halfway into Downhearted. The Bash Brothers have delivered an album that will go down a storm with their established fanbase, but I can’t see Downhearted being a release that furthers the Bash Brothers cause beyond the die hard fans of melodic hardcore, but if you are amongst that number then Downhearted is the album you’ve been looking for.
