What You See Is What You Get - STP Records

What You See Is What You Get is the sophomore album from Hung Like Hanratty that is set to be unleashed on the 29th September, it follows in the wake of their debut album, 2016’s 50 Shades Of Shit, that was released via Flicknife Records. Their latest album is released via STP Records, the label that is the home of Dirt Box Disco, Spunk Volcano And The Eruptions and Kid Klumsy, and if you like any of those bands then you won’t be disappointed by Hung Like Hanratty as they sit perfectly amongst the label’s roster with their straight up punk rock and a less than subtle lyrical approach.

What You See Is What You Get takes a scattergun approach to societies ills, the songs cover everything from people who go out in their pyjamas, ambulance chasing solicitors, people who park in disable bays and your gate being left open to the catalogue of sexual abuse by Harvey Weinstein and the presidency of Donald Trump, each of which is dealt with exactly the same sledgehammer subtlety. With the sole exception of Outer Body Experience the whole album is delivered in a no frills old school melodic punk rock style that suits the material perfectly.

Their erratic lyrical approach is backed up by some serious muscle that carries the album along at a cracking pace, musically they embrace the abrasive end of pop punk and old school punk rock that is all delivered at full tilt. This is not an album that makes subtle points, What You See Is What You Get is essentially a catalogue of those little things you encounter in everyday life that collectively take the shine off your day. This is an album that will appeal to fans of their STP Records label mates, and the likes of the Anti-Nowhere League and The Macc Lads as every single track on What You See Is What You Get has big singalong choruses that will be best enjoyed with a pint clutched in your hand.
