There Is No Place Left For Me Here - Self Released
Rebuild/Repair formed in Canada in a North Edmonton basement in 2011, the trio has littered the last seven years with a series of self released albums, singles and splits that carry both the rage of early America hardcore and the early proto metal riffage of Black Sabbath and mix it with a sludge groove and an abrasive undertone. Now the trio are set to self release their heaviest and most challenging work to date in the shape of their third full length, There Is No Place Left For Me Here, on the 28th September.
What is clear from Rebuild/Repair‘s latest full length is that the trio are tormented by their inner demons and fuelled by the many injustices of the world, both in their own backyard and further afield. Rura Penthe is a furious opener that deals with the claustrophobia of your home town, a track that, along with it’s successor High Level, owes a lot to the early recordings by The Adolescents. There Is No Place Left For Me Here continues it’s all out assault but after the initial pair of hardcore assaults the album starts to get into a different gear as the sludgier and heavier influences come to bear over the latter stages of the album.
There Is No Place Left For Me Here is an album of thunderous groove and an unwavering intensity that sees Rebuild/Repair delivering an album that manages to straddle the twin influences of the early hardcore scene and the doom laden vibes of Ozzy era Black Sabbath and twist them to their design. Rebuild/Repair‘s latest offering does leave you asking the question whether this will hit the mark with either the metal fans or the hardcore scene, but if you are a fan of either of their primary influences then they are worth checking out as There Is No Place Left For Me Here is an intense heavyweight release.
