Goodbye Dreamboat - Paper Street Cuts
Back in 2015 The Hammerbombs released the Covered In Cat Hair EP that contained “five tasty treats that may or may not end up as a real album one day”, well that day finally arrived earlier this month with the release of their twelve track debut full length Goodbye Dreamboat via Paper Street Cuts. From the opening round of Shower Beer you get the impression that this is no frills hedonistic punk rock, normally there’s a but at this point as a band confounds your expectations by heading off at an unexpected tangent, but that isn’t what The Hammerbombs are about. As one track fades out another hit of raw punk rock takes its place. My personal favourite is Full Of Shit, this track is about as subtle as a kick in the teeth but it’s well aimed stroke and it’s the kind of song you want to play full blast at your idiot neighbour, or maybe at the politician of your choice
The rough and ready punk rock of The Hammerbombs debut EP has been replaced by… well is hasn’t, this is still rough and ready punk rock, and I have no problem whatsoever with that. When it’s done right this kind of glorious beer fuelled raucous racket is the perfect soundtrack to lost evenings and weekends, there might a very slight refining of their sound since the release of Covered In Cat Hair and the alternating male and female vocals bring a different character to the songs as the album progresses, but aside from that this is twelve straight shots of punk rock. Sometimes an album like Goodbye Dreamboat is just what you need, and if twelve hits of raucous passionate punk rock is what you’re craving then The Hammerbombs debut full length will hit the spot perfectly.
Goodbye Dreamboat can be streamed and purchased via Bandcamp and can be purchased on vinyl via Paper Street Cuts
