Album Review: The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – While We’re At It

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have now been with us for 35 years, and now we find ourselves on the verge of the release of their tenth studio album, While We’re At It, being unleashed. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones latest release is an upbeat and optimistic album that is set to be released on June 15th via their very own imprint, Big Rig Records. The album is a fourteen track collection of their timeless ska core that shines a spotlight on current events and showcases the band’s signature sound.

As the horns kick in on Green Bay, Wisconsin you know that this is The Mighty Mighty Bosstones back in their prime, the laid back ska is underpinned by a punk edge and attitude and for me there’s no one who does this quite as well as these grandaddies of ska punk. While We’re At It is an album that effortlessly ebbs and flows, mellower moments such as The Constant, Walked Like A Ghost and Unified give way to the signature ska core sound, a sound that is personified by the album’s lead single, Wonderful Day For The Race.

The release of While We’re At It has seen The Mighty Mighty Bosstones release an album that will be lapped up by their established fan base, and if you’re amongst their number then this album really should already be pre-ordered, as it’s arguably as good as anything they’ve released since Let’s Face It exploded onto the scene just over twenty years ago. If you were hoping for something unexpected, or a few tracks that deviate from their trademark style then you’ll have a fruitless search as this is an album that treads a well worn path where The Mighty Mighty Bosstones do what they do best.
