Whatever... This Sucks - Whoa! Records
The Mizzerables have now been around for six years, they are now trimmed down to the trio of founding member and frontman Joe Mizzi, formerly with Ten Ninety, Common Rider, and About the Mess, who is accompanied by long term conspirators Dave Vazzano and Korey Brisendine who hold down the rhythm section. Their latest album “Whatever… This Sucks” foregoes the comic book imagery that has graced many of their previous releases and instead sees the band posed like budget superheroes looking nobly towards the future. Maybe this is because their latest album is a more personal journey that takes you deep into Mizzi’s psyche and musical influences, or maybe it was because they’d splashed out on the swish new tank tops they’re modelling on the album cover.
If you’re familiar with The Mizzerables back catalogue that comprises their two previous full lengths, 2013’s “Every Last Stitch” and 2016’s “As I Am“, and the 2017 “No Sleeves” EP then you won’t be in for any unpleasant surprises. From the opening hit of “Gravity” to the superb closing track “Thoughts And Prayers” you’re getting a good hit of bass driven melodic punk rock that just pulls you into the album. “FKI” makes a re-appearance and has been revamped for their latest release, it sounds cleaner, ever so slightly leaner and more driven then it’s previous outing on the “No Sleeves” EP, and that is essentially a summary of the album and where The Mizzerables are right now.
With their third full length The Mizzerables have delivered fourteen infectious and raw slices of melodic punk rock that are served with a side order of pop hooks and political dissent. Grab yourself a copy of “Whatever… This Sucks” and then investigate their previous releases, all of which are generously available as ‘name your price’ downloads via Bandcamp.
