Fireworks And Alcohol - Fueled By Ramen Records
The windy city has blown out another punk rock band for us to enjoy, this time they go by the name of August Premier. After forming in the summer of 2000, the band have finally released their debut full length, “Fireworks And Alcohol”, onto the world through the great Florida-based label, Fueled By Ramen Records. The CD, which has 12 tracks and lasts over 45 minutes, is one which will take even the most skeptical person by surprise.
They open the album with their strongest track, “Baker Song”, this gives you a great feel of what to expect from the rest of the album and gets you wanting to hear it. Catchy guitar hooks with great bass riffs rip through your speakers supported by great drumming by Mickey Molinari. Every song has that same feel to it, but it is never once overwhelming. The vocals are always on top singing about many different things: girls, friends, fights, summer, and even an ode to their hometown of Chicago are just a few. Lyrics like “Where the fuck did you go? Mother Fucker god dammit. How the fuck have you been?” grab you attention just as well as lyrics like “Everyone here has got a mind of their own”. Listening to the lyrics you can get a sense of happiness in most of them, always giving words of encouragement and wisdom. These are the types of songs which will help many kids go through hard times.
Overall, this is a great debut album and will definitely hook many new fans. Of course there are a couple weak songs here and there, but almost all CDs have those.
