A Hostage And The Meaning Of Life - Fearless Records
Brazil are bursting onto the scene with their first full length release A Hostage and the Meaning Of Life. With high pitched vocals and progressive instrumentals, this record is full of power and a sound that will grab you and never let go. With twelve (12) songs, this album is full of memorable moments and clever quips any music fan can enjoy.
I have to say this album is quite a blend of genres. I’m sure fans of many different types of music will enjoy this record just as much as I do. The music is very vocally driven, and the keyboard/piano takes a lead role next to the guitars as well. All the instruments compliment each other very well overall, even though the drumming isn’t extremely difficult it’s perfect for the music and fits each song. This is an album any musician can enjoy listening to for the instrumentals alone.
The best part about this album in my opinion is their ability to make the songs grab your attention without being overly catchy. Many times through the album I wanted to sing along without even knowing the words or hearing the song before. The lyrics themselves are very intilectual and well put. Lead singer Jonathon Newby sings from the heart with a full range of emotion; from excitement to depression, hope for the future to nostalgia. The harmonies along with the words make this album very entertaining to listen to and to sing along to as well.
I was very impressed with this album. The vocals reminded me of a sort of At The Drive-In sound, and the music was extremely enjoyable. I can tell Brazil is going somewhere with an album like this, something I can recomend to fans of all types of music. Look for this release on my Top 10 list this year.
