Crushing Low

This Is How We Die - Self Released

Crushing Low are a band from London village, a place somewhere down in the south of England I’m told. This looks very much like their debut album, it’s due out today, the 25th September, and is, as most of the new releases these days, self released.

The first thing I’d like to do with this review is warn you all, this is a band that take their name very literally.  Crushing Low is not a metaphor, it’s a narrative they play out on you the listener, songs that will crush you to your lowest ebb if you allow it. So to this end, this mini album kicks off with the bombshell ‘This Is How We Die’, yes you will die, no uncertainty about it, nothing more to say about that, other than its musically we’ve got some punk/pop sounding sugar coating all over it. If you’re looking for an album that does exactly what it says on the tin, Punk Rock that’s short sweet and to the point, your on the right track when you hit play, this is an eight tracks in 12 mins of Pop Punk, Skate Punk, Hardcore music, and I hope some tongue in cheek lyrics, the last bit is up for debate.

In the spirit of this album, let’s make this review, short, concise, and pray to an imaginary all knowing saviour that the afterlife really exists. When you have songs entitled ‘Shovel To The Face’, ‘Caught In A Big Explosion’, ‘I Fell Down The Stairs’, and ‘I Slipped On A Banana Peel’, I’d say there really is no point in explaining the psychology of it all, just a note to say, enter at your own risk. I will add though, that this forthrightness is actually really refreshing. By the time you get to the abrupt end of this album, your low will have been crushed lower than you thought it ever could be, but it’s strangely worth every second of the 12 minutes it lasts though.
