Rockapokalips - Avenue Recordz

Nine albums in, and still going strong that’s Dirt Box Disco, and If you haven’t heard them before, well “where the fuck you been hiding like”.  What do DBD do best, well its plain and simple really, they do full on punk rock anthems with melodies that stick like glue in your head, and they know how to get a crowd going to the point of frenzy at live gigs.

Given that this is number nine and the second that features Spunk Volcano as the lead vocal, how has time and change helped or hindered the creative juices?, well this album still has all the power anthems that make DBD a must for live music fans in particular.  ‘#Bollocks’ being first out of the trap, has you reliving the live shows with all the same energy and that quiet frankly is how this album comes across from start to finish, a sweaty dance/crowd surfing fest of madness.

With songs that do exactly what they say on the tin, this album is straight up taking a look at society and life in general in the 21st Century, but then as a band they still manage to give a spin on subjects that might otherwise be lost in the mist of over complicated lyrics, ‘Kill The Music’ is either a song about shit mainstream music, or it could even be a look at how life drags you to the point of breaking, either way DBD make it an up front banger that’s never to pretentious.  This is a point that you will find from song to song throughout this album, simple one liners that sit at the heart of every songs chorus, making a statement but never losing site of having a good time.

Songs to particularly listen out for have to be, ‘Happy Pills’ deeper than it sounds, ‘Land Of Hope & Glory’ tongue in cheek title on how this country is fucked, and then ‘We’re Not Taking Any Shit’ the antithesis of how a song on how to treat the establishment or any other oppressive kinds should be written and played.

There’s nothing complicated about DBD albums, and this is no exception, what you hear is what you get, as pure an anthems album as you could ever get, played with all the energy of a live show that leaves you feeling just as drained (played full blast of course).
