Drunk Mums – Beer Baby

Beer seems to be deeply embedded in Australian culture, many notable Aussie artists, whether it’s The Chats, Men At Work, The Rumjacks, PLANTS or AC/DC, to name but a few, all reference their love for beer, although it’s not confirmed whether or not Kylie likes to knock a few tinnies back on tour. There’s a love for beer deeply embedded in the grooves of those recordings, so it’s no surprise that a band called Drunk Mums only add to this legacy, the fact that the album is called Beer Baby and is released on Legless Records underlines this impression and adds a full stop, there’s no room for temperance or moderation as far as Drunk Mums are concerned.

From the opening chords of New Australia it’s clear that is raucous and slightly ragged punk rock that sits somewhere between the full tilt snotty punk rock of The Chats and the Aussie garage punk legacy that goes way back with the likes of Cosmic Psychos and The Saints. If you’re hoping for crystal clear production to be enjoyed on your high end stereo then you might as well stop reading now, if, however, you are seeking some dirty drunken garage punk then Drunk Mums will tick all boxes. Their foot is firmly on the gas and a DUI is surely on the horizon. There is no subtlety on display, just ten tracks of raw garage punk that resembles the soundtrack to a friendly pub brawl.

Given that the last time Drunk Mums emerged with their unruly racket was a leap year, can we expect them to return in 2028 after sleeping off their hangover? Let’s hope that they can grab some painkillers, or a hair of the dog, and can keep doing what they do best, having a good time and leaving a path of carnage in their wake.

Beer Baby is due out on March 7th via Legless Records, Gaga Music and the UK’s Bachelor Records. Drunk Mum‘s will also be hitting the road across the UK and mainland Europe this Spring in support of Beer Baby.
