Coast To Coast

Sovereign - Fox Records

Coast To Coast Are, Keiran Hyland – Vocals, Alex Edge – Lead Guitar, Josh Taylor – Rhythm Guitar, Zak Taylor – Bass, base themselves in Birmingham UK and have been together for around four years.

This EP is, what has been touted as a fresh look at previously released material and new songs, takes them to their stripped back state and plays them like never before.

Can we get excited about something that has already seen the light of day mixed with one new song, all be it played differently.  Well truthfully, if you ask for an honest opinion, from the first and title track “Sovereign” you might think “shoe gazing indie” in the early bars, but then this does actually have so much more substance than that, a voice that stands out as a voice of huge expression and passion, with uniqueness that is hard to find.

Played as almost acoustic, the other four songs are given ‘alternative’ billing, they are all sung with so much passion and are perfectly arranged, and have the near flawless production, of the kind that softens and caresses songs into submission.  The rawness that could give these songs that edginess they are so much crying out for, may have been lost.

That said, if beautiful, intricate, soft, chill out songs are something you need at the end of a long hard day, then your’e in for a treat.
