Prayer Group

Eudean - Buzzhowl Records

Straight out of Richmond, VA come Prayer Group, another band that has found it’s home on the eclectic but consistently and reassuringly noisy roster of Buzzhowl Records. Prayer Group originally rose from the remains of Gifts From Enola, New Turks, Equestrians and Kingshead and they are now set to release their third EP “Eudean” that was produced and engineered by Ethan and Nate from the band, mixed by Chris Compton and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. The Eudean EP will be released tomorrow, the 19th July, on limited edition ‘glitter green’cassette as well as via the trusty download and streaming routes

It’s been two long years since the Prayer Group released “ICUP“, their latest EP picks exactly were the final squall of noise and feedback faded out on their last release. The dense intertwined opener “Landlord College” sets Prayer Group‘s lasted release off on a dark path, something that is underlined by both the title and content of the EP’s second track “Code Black“. Somewhat surprisingly Acid Mountain provides the EP’s most accessible track, taking it’s cues from the Butthole Surfers on a bad trip before fading out in a swathe of fuzz that bleeds into The Other, the EP’s primal finale.

It’s hard to know exactly what to make of the Prayer Group, their chaotic layered noise rock is not something that is going to win over fans based on a brief listen to the EP, but like acts before them, such as the aforementioned Butthole Surfers and the driven chaos of the Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, this is a soundtrack that will grow on you over time, how much time is impossible to say but are you really doing anything important right now?

The Eudean EP can be pre-ordered on ltd run cassette and digital formats via Buzzhowl Records here
