Feels Like July

In The Company Of Wolves - Top Shelf Records

When I first put this CD on, I was pretty happy with it, until I tuned out for a bit and found myself waiting for the first track to end. I realized with disappointment that I was already half way through the album. The tracks are not unpleasant, though they tend to bleed into each other and sound very similar. Without question, Feels Like July has obvious talent, but not much distinguishing them from other bands in the same vein of rock such as Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, or even the Deftones. The two tracks that I found most remarkable book-ended the album: “A Light in the Addict” as an appropriate intro and crescendo into the more fast-paced music, while perhaps my favorite overall is the last song “One For The Destiny, Two For The Road”, a short acoustic piece that exudes a sincerity and emotion unparalleled throughout the rest of the album. In the Company of Wolves is an entertaining listen, but nothing truly remarkable. I would not go so far as to completely write off the band, however, because there is enough musical potential present to become something great; at this point, it’s just a matter of waiting for that potential to be fulfilled.
