Hours - Atlantic Records
You know, its a bad sign when the only way to describe a CD is “Holy mediocrity Batman!” First off, how much of a loser do you have to be to think of those terms, and secondly, that sounds like a pretty lame CD. Well, since we aren’t here to talk about how much of a loser I am, let’s instead talk about the album in question: Funeral For A Friend‘s sophomore effort, Hours. And in all honesty, that is a pretty fair description of the album.
After hearing Hours, I find myself wondering what it was that I heard in Casually Dressed & Deep In Conversations that I enjoyed, because although I remember enjoying the debut, this one has nothing appealing on it. It lacks any real kick to the songs as it follows the emo curriculum to the T with the very whiny voice with some good harmonies and the occasional scream that don’t really add to the songs in any way other then make the emo fans happy. The songs are all long and seem to flow into one another without a break, so it’s impossible to hear one from another. The only track that stands out in the crowd, or that could survive by itself for that matter, is the acoustic number, History. Here, we seem to finally real power, albeit not that original once again, but still done good enough to earn the repeat button multiple times. Too bad the rest of the Cd doesn’t follow that pathway rather then fizzle out into nothing ness.
Although, it is pretty mediocre, that’s not saying it’s completely horrible – it’s just too generic to be of any entertaining to me. Nevertheless, it makes pretty good background music for when you are busy working hard on something and not just paying full attention to the CD. Its just not something you’ll want to blast out the car windows as you drive down the highway this summer because there’s no way it will succeed in pumping you up in anyway; but it might make the driver a little drowsy instead.
