As I seem to remember when Heart & Lung re-released their 2017 album ‘You Wanna Know The Truth’ at the end of 2020, having covered this release myself and if I remember rightly did comment on the fact that the new album was to be looked forward to, almost 12 months later the new album lands in my inbox and turns out it came out a month or so ago actually, but hey it got here, really hope this lives up to my expectations. Apparently they have been busy with their live schedule so the delay in promoting it can definitely be excused.

Having a fairly reasonable memory for an old guy, what I do know is that this band have so much potential, does this new album capitalise on this, well lets just say it has it moments. One of those moments is opener ‘Watch You Suffer’ it’s one of the heavier songs that sit within this power pop-punk compilation of Heart & Lung hits, yes I said hits, this album although new, somehow feels like a greatest hits album, a mix up of style and conviction that muddles together. The power of track one is lost a little when you get into ‘I’m Fine’ this is more of a punk ditty of sorts, but this is ok, because having a change of sound in an album definitely adds to its listenability.
As you move through the album, you are well aware that this band don’t exactly take them selves seriously at times, fun elements seem to bleed into the songs from all angles, ‘Punk Poster’, ‘Headache’ and ‘Caveman’ sit right in this category, strange, fun, odd and damn right crazy can be the only way of describing these songs.
What is so confusing is the fact that there are still places in the album that something of depth rears up and bites ya, ‘Shit Together’ has introspective things going on, backed up by some sharp to the point musical angst, ‘Drunk And Right’ almost took me down the Against Me route musically, yet never quite kicked ass, then your hit with ‘Earth, Wind And Water’ this album ends as it begins, heavy and angst filled, it just a pity that the filling is a little fluffy and odd.
If its fun yet exciting at times and very very confusing your looking for, this album is 100% for you, I really love this band, but not all the time! Three nay Four great pieces of brilliance and I do include ‘Headache’ in this!
Hooks and riffage a plenty, old punks being grown up and wondering do we really still need to be angry?
