Living Well Is The Best Revenge - Drive-Thru Records

Gabe Saporta (vocals and base), Heath Saraceno (vocals and guitar),  Rob Hitt (drums and backing vocals) and Tyler Rann (vocals, guitar) are the four talented men who create the band that is Midtown! This, their 2nd album, is an absolutely amazing CD.  They have produced an cool sound that is unique to this one band.

They open the CD with my favorite song, Become What You Hate. It starts with a small metallic type slide on the guitar. Getting louder as it enters this amazing song. This adrenaline pumping song is full of great beats and an incredibly catchy chorus: “That I’m Afraid That You’ve Become Everything That You Hate, I’m Waiting, For This To Blow Away”. As you can tell it is a song about someone finally turning into something that she/he had hated. It is a really cool song, definitely one of the best on the album. Still Trying is the next song on Living Well Is The Best Revenge. Once again this song as a cool beat, and well written lyrics.

Then we come upon Get It Together, this starts of with the same kind of sound that started off Become What You Hate. It has a heavy beat but softens once the vocals commence. The sound changes a lot in this song, and always with great timing, which makes the song sound so much better. Its about two trying to solve a problem and it is saying that they are more likely to succeed together.

Now is their single, Like A Movie. They made it their single and with good reason! Its an absolutely amazing song which just blows you away. It is a fast paced song with great riffs through out.  Around 2:10 into the song, it slows down to a steady beat and they say:
“I Don’t Believe In Anything
But I Believe In You
I Never Trusted Anyone
But Somehow I Trust You”

Overall, Like A Movie is a great song, and was a great choice for their single. There’s No Going Back is the fifth song on the album.  Although it has a very small amount of lyrics, the lyrics there are very good and catchy.  Next we get to hear the talented Heath Saraceno’s writing skills, with the slowest song on the album, Perfect. The first time I heard the song, I didn’t like it much, but the more I listened to it, the more I fell in love with it. It is one of the better slow songs made by bands of the punk genre. The song is about someone who pushed away an opportunity to go out with someone, and now regrets it. Now he wants her to go out with him but she is pushing it away.

You Should Know starts off with a simple guitar riff that repeats itself has Gabe starts singing right away. This is a wonderful opening to the song, something different front the rest of the album. It is about someone that is always there for his friend. A really cool song and meaning.

In the eighth song, Heath shows us his writing talents one again with One Last Time. Once again it is a slower song, although faster then Perfect. It is another one with catchy lyric. One Last Time is a pretty cool song, but not quite as good as the next one, A Faulty Foundation. This is another one of my favorites on the album. It is more of a guitar and bass song, with not a lot of lyrics. Around 1:15 in, they slow down the beat and the vocals change to a really cool sound which just suits the song.

Now, the last two songs have incredibly deep meanings to them both. The first is In The Songs.  It is an song about Midtown or any band, struggling as they are starting their career in the music industry. Spending night on hard wood floors and playing house show and so on. It talks about all the hard work that involves being in a band. Makes you think twice before you use the awful word that is “Sell-out”. The last song was writing by Tyler, Find Comfort It In Yourself. It talks about moving on form your troubles and live your life to the fullest. And to always “Know That What You Have Is Not What You Are”. Just find comfort in yourself to deal with it and move on. Its a pretty powerful song.
