File Under Black - Fat Wreck Chords

After Kid Dynamite departed ways, the former frontman, Jason Shevchuk, started writing some new material. Teaming up with his brother Jeff and two other guys, None More Black was born. With one 7″ under their belts, the band signed to Fat Wreck and released their debut CD, “File Under Black”, a 14 track CD lasting a total of 35 minutes.

Looking at the track listing, you get the feel that this band is a very happy one. I mean, just look at the titles: “Everyday Balloons”, “The Ratio Of People To Cake” and “Ice Cream With The Enemy”, why wouldn’t you think that? But in reality, NMB is a perfect punk band for the Fat Wreck Chords family. A heavy, while energizing beat flows through the speakers on each track and gets your foot tapping as Jason flies through harsh, dark lyric after harsh, dark lyric backed-up by catchy vocals at key moments in the songs. Each song as it’s own special touch, be it the vocals or the melody, each song has something which will intrigue even the most narrow minded individual.

“File Under Black” which must be carefully listened to be be admired. It’s not an album which is an instant classic, or one with songs which will take over MTV and the radio airwaves. It is an album which takes a couple listens to before it really sinks in.

Overall, this is a CD which most Fat Wreck fans will truly enjoy, but remember not to dismiss it after only listening to it once.
