So Far, So Good - Venn Records
Having released a couple of EP’s in 2020 and 2021 respectively, now Out Of Love a band that could very loosely be labelled a pop punk band, from London, are set to enter the big wide world of full lengths, with the release of ‘So Far, So Good’. Having honed their sound over the past few years, this album gives us all chance to hear just how razor sharp this band have become, with a sound that slices the pop punk rule book up with a rusty blade, street punk I call this, of its time and ahead of our time. A band that sprung to mind immediately as ’S.L.U.M.P’ hit the airwaves, was Aerial Salad, the vocals and delivery of which are like an angst that has been missing from some of the more main stream recently, hence “street punk” it’s of an age. ‘My Perfect World’ hits this vein too, although this is much more anthemic, it still has all the musical brilliance that could even be related to as technical punk, yet it still comes across so simplistic and gritty.

It’s not very often that we get a band coming through that has not just gone back and taken influences from the bowels of the punk world, but also adds its own drops into the vast melting pot for others to follow, Out Of Love have something here that although on the surface could easily be taken as average, like in ‘Play Pretend’ a banger that just does exactly that, but then this is followed up by ‘Wishlist’ which has elements of the brilliant Spy Catcher, but can still hold its own, then your thrown from this into ‘Hello Trouble’ which gives you a fix of a melodic sing-a-long, emotionally charged 2 mins plus.
This album seems to cover every base that can be covered in the realities of life growing up with todays pressures, from the fake everything that surrounds us, ‘I See Right Thru’ might be speaking of this. ‘Sniffin Glue’ plays with addictions of all shapes and sizes, then ‘Pity’ has its sights set on the habitual moaners of that can dog your life and drag you down to there pit of self pity, best cut the rope and see them drop!
For a 1st stab at an album, this will do fine, thank you very much. Powerful and punk, what more do you need.
