Razorbats

This High - Self Destructo Records

This is the latest release from Norway’s Razorbats, it follows hot on the heels of last years accomplished album Camp Rock, if anything I think they’ve already surpassed their debut release on the basis of This High. By mixing elements of all manner of rock, touching on punk attitude and embracing pretty much everything in between, they defy expectation and seem to straddle several decades and styles. What’s more impressive is that they’ve done this in the space of three tracks, and in about fifteen minutes, on this engaging EP.

This Hurricane, is a mid tempo rocker which has a kind of restrained 1970s feel to it, yet somehow this manages to sound contemporary at the same time. The title track steps up the pace and sounds like a marriage between The Wildhearts and The Undertones, this track is the highlight of the EP with it’s uplifting chorus and infectious guitar riff. The closer Born In The Fast Lane is a slow burning take of life on the road and is tinged with melancholy and regret.

This EP is a step forward from last years Camp Rock album, it still bears their hallmark but this just seems a more coherent package and the Razorbats appear to have a bright future in front of them. Scandanavia seems to have a good track record in producing bands that have the capability of encompassing the past whilst producing something new and relevant, maybe there’s something in the water?

This High will be released on June 15th on Self Destructo Records and you can visit their bandcamp here.

Razorbats will be making a rare visit to the UK in July, they will be playing London on July 1st and then onto Slugfest in South Wales on July 2nd
