Riskee And The Ridicule

Too Young To Be Blue - Bomber Music

We all know that 2020 sucked, for Riskee & The Ridicule it of course meant that tours came to a juddering halt, the very environment where the band thrive. Of course you can’t keep a good band down and Riskee & The Ridicule drip fed the three tracks they recorded prior to to Covid’s arrival, and the repeated lockdowns that followed it’s unwelcome arrival in the UK. With restrictions now easing, although for many the spectre of covid still haunts many social events, Riskee & The Ridicule have released the Too Young To Be Blue EP that collates those three singles and signals their return to the road and the sweaty venues where they belong.

Opening with an unexpected cover of Lana Del Rey’s 2013 single Young & Beautiful, a pairing so unlikely that I had to google the original for comparison. Riskee & The Ridicule have somehow managed to remain faithful to the original whilst adding their own personal dynamic, and obviously volume, to the track, not an easy trick to pull off but one that Riskee & The Ridicule have delivered. Next up is the Brexit baiting single Blue Jacket, a track that is in more familiar territory for the band as it delivers their trademark blend of grime punk and political invective that is delivered with with humour and takes on that monumental act of self harm head on.

Finally we get Backwords 2, a track that follows up on Backwords that appeared on their 2017 album, Blame Culture. Riskee And The Ridicule have shifted their sound significantly in the last four years and this track acts as a bridge between past and present for the Kent grime punks. Too Young To Be Blue is a snapshot of Riskee And The Ridicule’s lockdown output, hopefully now this strange and restrictive era can be consigned to the dustbin of the past and they can hit the road once more, and the rest of us can all start to resume our lives and exorcise the spectre of lockdown.

The Too Young To Be Blue EP is now available via Bandcamp and all major streaming platforms
