Bobby Funk

Avocado Stains - TNS Records

TNS Records have signed Cornish punks Bobby Funk and they aren’t wasting any time as on April 16th they will be releasing the Avocado Stains EP, that will be available on a limited edition of 250 avocado shaped radioactive green vinyl, the EP is a culmination of the chaos of their live shows that has been condensed into a thirteen minute EP. Tt’s clear that Bobby Funk don’t take them too seriously as the tracks cover subjects such as drugs, bouncers fighting and a sick helmet, as well as calling Johnny Depp a wanker an impressive 83 times and even considering what would have happened if Jason Statham was in Crass.

DMT kicks things off with a blast of UK82 inspired punk rock in honour of the psychedelic drug Dimenthyltryptamine, the frantic old school discord continues with the bar brawl that is Roid Rage Ruckus. Johnny Wanker makes is clear that Bobby Funk are not by any means paid up members of the Johnny Depp fan club, for me the EP’s finest moment comes with Stathams Of The Crass which revisits the style of Crass and asks a question that no one ever thought to ask before, Bobby Funk then wrap things up with the less than charming Sick Helmet.

With the Avocado Stains EP Bobby Funk have released an EP that, despite carrying the feel of the politically charged UK82 and anarcho punk scenes, proves that they don’t take themselves too seriously, this is an EP that musically is straight from the DIY punk stable, but it’s their lyrical content that makes them stand out from the crowd and I can see Bobby Funk going down a storm with fans of the likes of Wonk Unit, Citizen Fish, Snuff and Bus Station Loonies. You will be able to catch Bobby Funk at this years Manchester Punk Festival at 2pm in the Zombie Shack on 21st April, with more shows to be announced in the UK and Europe throughout the summer.

The Avocado Stains EP cn be pre-ordered on limited edition vinyl from TNS Records here
